Measure out the length of the string as long as you would like your necklace to be. Commercially made necklaces can range anywhere from 10 inches to 48 inches. The 10 inch necklaces are chokers and fit snugly around the neck. The 48 inch necklaces are called strands. These can be worn dangling, but are most often doubled to resemble two necklaces.

Once you have measured the string, you can hold the ends together to see where it will fall on you when the necklace is complete. When you are satisfied the string is the right length, begin stringing on the sterling silver bead on the necklace one by one. If you purchased different shapes and sizes of sterling bead, you can alternate them to make creative designs.
